CMS finalizes prior authorization rule expected to save $15B
CMS has finalized a rule to streamline the prior authorization process and improve the electronic exchange of health information that it estimates will save $15 billion over 10 years.
Vermont doctors, patients seek living kidney donors
Dozens of Vermonters wait years for kidneys, a process that’s only gotten lengthier. According to the University of Vermont Medical Center, patients on average wait at least two to three years to get a kidney transplant, and in some instances, up to seven years.

Gov. Scott announces nursing workforce grants for Northwestern Medical Center, UVM Medical Center and other hospitals
Governor Scott and the Agency of Human Services (AHS) has awarded $5.125 million to four key healthcare institutions to bolster Vermont’s nursing workforce. Successful applicants include University of Vermont Health Network, Northwestern Medical Center, Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, and Cedar Hill Continuing Care Community.
Gunshots Project update: Gun deaths rose again in 2022, though firearm-related suicides dropped
Vermont documented a record number of gunshot fatalities in 2022, even though firearms-related suicides declined for the first time in four years. A total of 92 Vermonters died of gunshots, continuing a years-long upward trend: 68 were by suicide, 21 by homicide, and three were accidental or could not be determined.
