NBC5 In Depth: Call to revamp Vermont's hospital system - WPTZ

NBC5

This month, The Green Mountain Care Board released a 144-page report that was independently put together by Oliver Wyman, looking at recommendations on how to improve Vermont's hospital system to provide for a more access, affordability and equity.

Last year, nine of the state's fourteen hospitals lost money. It's projected that in the next five years that the number will grow to thirteen out of fourteen.

The report also looks at the state's aging population and how that will impact the health care system. It calls for changes in regulations to allow for the state to build more housing and recruit and hire more people to work in the hospital system.

Green Mountain Care Board Chair Owen Foster joins us for a conversation on NBC5 In Depth, to talk about how the system ended up in this spot and how the changes should help to set up better health care in the future.
