New Vermont programs aim to help cure nursing shortage

UVM Health Network has launched two new nursing programs with Norwich University and Vermont State University.

The first is the Accelerated BSN Pathway Program and the second is the MSN Education Pathway Program. "It's seamless, it's unprecedented, and it's only in Vermont," said Jerald Novak, chief people officer for the UVM Health Network.

It's the latest step from the hospital system in working to fill workforce shortages in nursing.

One challenge has been a shortage of educators to teach nursing students.

"We need more nurses," said Sen. Bernie Sanders. "We're not going to get more nurses unless we have more educators."
