White River Junction VA hosts open house to connect veterans with services
Valley News
Veterans and their family members can learn more about how to apply for benefits during an event scheduled for next week.
During the gathering — which takes place Saturday, Aug. 3 from noon to 4 p.m. at the White River Junction VA Medical Center located at 163 Veterans Drive — attendees can meet with Veterans Benefits Administration staff to learn how to start and file disability claims.
The event is being held to draw attention to the PACT Act, which expanded eligibility for benefits to veterans who were exposed to burn pits and other toxic chemicals while serving in any of the country’s military branches. The act, which was passed in August 2022, also expanded eligibility requirements for veterans who were exposed to Agent Orange, according to a news release from the White River Junction VA Healthcare System, which is cohosting the event with the Vermont National Guard. All veterans who are currently enrolled at the VA also can receive a toxic exposure screening.
