Officials report multiple cases of violence, threats at Windham County hospitals

NBC5

Law enforcement in Windham County have reported at least three cases involving assaults and threats against medical staff in southern Vermont Hospitals.

The most recent happened over the weekend on Saturday at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. On Nov. 23, police say they responded to the report of a male patient who was threatening staff and said he had a forearm.

Police arrested Mark Mahardy after speaking with nurses and did not find a weapon.

This comes after another reported incident on Nov. 18, where police responded to the hospital and arrested Scott Machuga for the simple assault of a security officer. He was later released.

This event happened just days before a health care provided was attacked at Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshen, according to state police.
