Statement on Decision Regarding the Green Mountain Surgery Center
The following statement is from Jeff Tieman, VAHHS President and CEO, regarding today's decision by the Green Mountain Care Board’s regarding the Green Mountain Surgery Center Certificate of Need Application.
"Following a long process, the Green Mountain Care Board has granted a conditioned certificate of need for the Green Mountain Surgery Center. While VAHHS stands by our assessment that the applicant did not meet the legal criteria required for a CON, we appreciate the GMCB applying a series of conditions the surgery center must meet. Among the most important of those conditions are that the surgery center establishes a charity care policy, treats all patients regardless of ability to pay, and that the center requires all physicians who perform procedures or surgeries there to accept all payers including Medicaid.
Looking to the future, Vermont’s hospitals will continue to serve their communities every day. They will continue their hard work on health reform. And they will continue vital collaborations with regulators, providers and partners to support an affordable health care system that effectively serves everyone in our state."
